Most English-language writing about Uzbekistan is either travel material or investment promotion. Both have their place and neither is much use to someone trying to understand how a sector actually works and where the figures are unreliable.

These pages are written plainly, revised when better data appears, and explicit about uncertainty. Where agencies disagree, we say which ones and by how much rather than averaging the difference away.

There is no advertising here and no sponsored content. Corrections, especially from people working in these sectors, are the main way the pages improve.

The service does not forecast. Projections for this economy depend on water allocation, regional politics and commodity prices, none of which are predictable from the inside, and a confident number would be worth less than an honest description of what is uncertain.
